Hemingway was said to have won a bet in which he claimed he could write an entire story in 6 words. He allegedly won it, writing, “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

This has inspired other works, including the collection Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure. So many of them are great, but one of my favorites is Abigail Moorhouse’s: “Barrister, barista, what’s the diff, Mom?”
