Columbia application

A few weeks ago, a student and I were looking at the Columbia application together.

Application: “List the films, performances, exhibits, concerts, shows, lectures, etc. you enjoyed most in the past year.”
Student: “Uhh…”
Me: “Like you have so much free time, right? Plus it sounds so uppity, doesn’t it?”
Student: “Films? So does that mean, like, movies?”

Nerds and ponytails

I have a question: Why do nerds have ponytails?

Not that all nerds have ponytails, of course. But men with ponytails are almost always nerds, and the proportion of nerds with ponytails far outstrips the proportion of non-nerds with ponytails.

But why?

3 tiny habits

I just completed the 3 Tiny Habits program, and I highly recommend it. I mastered 3 new habits over the past week, but more to the point I’ve strengthened my habit-building muscles and am all revved up, eager to learn more about working with my psychology and environment to promote more good habits happen and depress the bad ones.
