A new verb

A friend recently forwarded me a decade-old email of mine, and this was my sig file:

It is increasingly common for people to perform Web searches on their prospective mates….which has spawned a new verb, to google, as uttered in sentences like, “I met this woman last night at a party and I came right home and googled her.”
-NY Times, 3/11/01

To think that only ten years ago the New York Times had to introduce its readers to the verb “to google.” And with an adolescent snicker, no less.
